Multitemporal Fuzzy Markov Chain-based Classification of Very High Resolution Images of an Urban Site

چکیده
This work discusses the application of the cascade, multitemporal classification method based on fuzzy Markov chains originally introduced in (Feitosa et al. 2009), over a set of IKONOS images of urban areas within the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The method combines the fuzzy, monotemporal, classification of a geographical region in two points in time to provide a single unified result. The method does not require knowledge of the true class at the earlier date, but uses instead the attributes of the image object being classified at both the later and the earlier date. A transformation law based on class transition possibilities projects the earlier classification to the later date before combining both results. While in (Feitosa et al. 2009) the fuzzy Markov chain-based method was evaluated over a series of medium resolution, LANDSAT images, in this work very high resolution images were processed. Additionally, while the target area of the previous work was characterized predominantly by agricultural use, in this work an urban area was the subject of classification. The results showed that the performance of the multitemporal method was consistently superior to that of the monotemporal classification of the study area, and confirmed the robustness of the fuzzy Markov chain-based method with respect to sensor characteristics and target sites. * Corresponding author.

The objective of this research is to assess the multitemporal very high resolution single polarization SAR data for urban land cover/land-use mapping using a novel knowledge-based SEM algorithm. Three-date RADARSAT-2 ultra-fine beam SAR data were collected over the rural-urban fringe of Greater Toronto Area. A modified Stochastic Expectation-Maximization (SEM) algorithm which employs an adaptiv...

متن کاملMultitemporal Crop Type Classification Using Conditional Random Fields and Rapideye Data
The task of crop type classification with multitemporal imagery is nowadays often done applying classifiers that are originally developed for single images like support vector machines (SVM). These approaches do not model temporal dependencies in an explicit way. Existing approaches that make use of temporal dependencies are in most cases quite simple and based on rules. Approaches that integra...
متن کاملAdvanced methods for change detection in VHR multitemporal SAR images
Change detection aims at identifying possible changes in the state of an object or phenomenon by jointly observing data acquired at different times over the same geographical area. In this context, the repetitive coverage and high quality of remotely sensed images acquired by Earth-orbiting satellites make such kind of data an ideal information source for change detection. Among the different k...
متن کاملAutomatic Interpretation of UltraCam Imagery by Combination of Support Vector Machine and Knowledge-based Systems
With the development of digital sensors, an increasing number of high-resolution images are available. Interpretation of these images is not possible manually, which necessitates seeking for practical, fast and automatic solutions to solve the environmental and location-based management problems. The land cover classification using high-resolution imagery is a difficult process because of the c...
